The PhD in Health program is designed as a full-time residential study option. Candidates holding a thesis-based Master's degree qualify for a two-year residency period, requiring them to live in Halifax and fulfill all tuition and fee obligations to Dalhousie University while undertaking mandatory coursework and Comprehensive Examinations. Following this, reduced continuing fees apply as students focus on research and dissertation preparation (typically spanning two more years).
For those with a non-thesis or professional practice Master's degree, a three-year residency is available. These participants must first complete research experience courses, including a preliminary research pilot project in their initial year, before advancing to the standard two-year program requirements.
