The Department of Anthropology provides graduate studies leading to MA and PhD degrees across three key disciplines: sociocultural anthropology, biological anthropology, and archaeology. Our programs emphasize rigorous research training, with customized academic paths developed through close collaboration between students and faculty advisors. Our faculty's expertise spans diverse global regions, from Arctic environments to tropical zones, covering Asia, the Americas, and beyond. This research enhances knowledge in areas including family dynamics and community organization; gender studies; cultural approaches to health; labor migration and industrialization; globalization's economic and cultural impacts; fundamental human needs and cultural expressions; as well as evolutionary biology and environmental adaptation. Beyond the Faculty of Graduate Studies' core requirements outlined in the Graduate Studies Regulations, candidates must complete 9 credits at the 7000 level, with a minimum of 6 credits in Anthropology courses. All students must also pass ANTH 7000 (Professional Development in Anthropology) and successfully defend a thesis. The PhD program combines advanced coursework with extensive research, typically completed within four years.
