The University of Ottawa's Anthropology PhD program provides cutting-edge education that combines anthropology's core competencies (field research, ethnographic methods, global exposure, and interdisciplinary approaches) with modern theoretical frameworks. The redesigned curriculum incorporates career-focused workshops and a capstone project designed to enhance graduates' employability.
In today's rapidly changing societal and ecological landscape, anthropology offers fresh analytical viewpoints on modern challenges by connecting local concerns with worldwide trends. Through ethnographic fieldwork, researchers can capture the intricate nature of social phenomena while examining diverse subjects like healthcare, ecology, digital media, urban studies, governance, economic systems, and Indigenous studies within various cultural settings.
Administered by the School of Sociological and Anthropological Studies, the Anthropology PhD program is available full-time in both French and English. However, students should note that the three mandatory doctoral seminars are conducted exclusively in French.
