Our graduate programs in Rural Education provide students with diverse opportunities to explore research and professional interests across various aspects of rural education. These include teacher training, place-based teaching approaches, and learning/instruction methods for rural and remote settings at all educational levels in different contexts.

The Department of Curriculum and Pedagogy features PhD, MA, and MEd specializations in Rural Education, plus the West Kootenay Rural Teacher Education Program (WKTEP) with elementary and secondary options (https://teach.educ.ubc.ca/bachelor-of-education-program/wktep/). An approved online rural teacher education program is currently being developed for launch in Fall 2022.
Additionally, the department provides PhD concentrations and MA/MEd specializations in Social Studies Education, along with a secondary Teacher Education (BEd) major and a Social Studies Education Diploma program.
