The Department of Agricultural, Food, and Nutritional Science provides thesis-based programs for Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy candidates, alongside course-focused Master of Agriculture and Master of Science options. Human Nutrition studies investigate connections between dietary factors and wellness, aiming to improve health outcomes and disease prevention. This field examines relationships between nutrition and wellbeing. Graduate research covers diverse areas like metabolism, physiology, immunology, epidemiology, dietary evaluation, community health initiatives, and population health strategies. Studies concentrate on pressing health concerns including metabolic disorders, chronic illnesses, pediatric nutrition, and public health nutrition - all working toward disease prevention and life quality improvement.

Qualification Requirements

For a thesis-based MSc degree, the Department's minimum admission requirements are an undergraduate degree with an admission GPA of at least 3.3 on the 4-point scale from the University of Alberta, or an equivalent qualification and standing from a recognized institution.
Four-year undergraduate degree (preferably Science or Engineering based), or its academic equivalent, from a recognized institution, and:
Grade point average (GPA) of 3.3 out of 4.0 or B+ on a letter-based scale in the last two years (approximately 60 credits) of post-secondary study. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT, in-person or special at-home edition) - Total score of 90 with a score of at least 21 on each of the individual skill areas (internet-based) or equivalent. Academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - 6.5, with at least 6.0 on each test band
