The MN program equips nurses to take on specialized nursing positions across various environments, such as teaching roles in both academic and clinical contexts, official leadership and management positions, clinical nurse practitioner duties, innovative roles within healthcare organizations, and groundwork for advanced research education. This program fosters the growth of sophisticated expertise and competencies that promote investigation and research to tackle healthcare and nursing practice challenges. Students can opt for either course-based or thesis-based pathways, both offering a strong base for continuing toward a PhD in Nursing.
Those selecting a clinical specialization may, after finishing the MN program, seek licensure as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) for Adults, Nurse Practitioner (NP) for Family All Ages, or Nurse Practitioner (NP) for Neonates through the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Additional details about clinical specialization options can be found on the Faculty of Nursing's website.
