Environmental Studies explores the scientific, cultural, economic, ethical, political, and social aspects of environmental challenges, equipping students with the skills to recognize, analyze, and address some of the most pressing ecological concerns of our time.

Through collaboration between the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences, this joint degree program emphasizes the multifaceted nature of environmental problems. You'll gain interdisciplinary knowledge to understand, contextualize, and help solve environmental challenges. Graduates will possess a comprehensive background in environmental studies, social sciences, and humanities, preparing them for careers in law, business, economics, resource management, journalism, or advanced studies in professional or research fields.

Qualification Requirements

English is the primary language of instruction in all Faculties except Facult Saint-Jean. All undergraduate applicants to any program or course except Facult Saint-Jean need an adequate level of English language proficiency before admission, regardless of their citizenship status or country of origin. The University of Alberta reserves the right to use discretion in determining adequate levels of language proficiency to ensure success in academic programs.
Graduation from a recognized degree program offered by an accredited university at which English is the primary language of instruction or in a country where English is the primary language.
A score of at least 90 on the TOEFL iBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language - Internet-based) with no less than 21 on each band.
A score of at least 6.5 on the IELTS Academic (International English Language Testing System) with no band less than 6.0.
A score of at least 70 on the Canadian Academic English Language assessment: CAEL (paper) or CAEL CE (computer) with no band less than 60.
