Trent University's pioneering Indigenous Environmental Studies and Science (IESS) program, delivered in partnership with the School of the Environment, stands as North America's inaugural academic offering of its kind. This unique degree explores the intersection and cooperation between Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Western academic traditions, presenting students with two distinct academic tracks. Opt for the Bachelor of Arts (Studies) route to explore environmental relationships through cultural, social, and humanistic lenses grounded in Indigenous worldviews. Alternatively, select the Bachelor of Science (Sciences) track to develop analytical frameworks for understanding the natural world that integrate both Indigenous and Western scientific approaches. Under the mentorship of distinguished Indigenous and non-Indigenous professors, Elders, visiting experts, and researchers, you'll cultivate the ability to employ transformative, imaginative, and solution-oriented approaches to tackle global challenges like climate change, sustainable development, public health, food systems, and other pressing concerns impacting Indigenous communities and populations worldwide.
