The Women's and Gender Studies program at StFX offers an interdisciplinary undergraduate education that creates both academic and community frameworks for examining gender issues. This program teaches students to apply gender as an analytical lens, encouraging personal reflection on gender's role in their own experiences. It investigates how factors like race, socioeconomic status, gender identity, ability, and sexual orientation intersect in personal lives and broader society. The curriculum highlights the academic significance and real-world applications of Women's and Gender Studies scholarship.
Degree options include: BA Honours in Women's and Gender Studies with an arts subsidiary, BA Major in Women's and Gender Studies, Joint Major combining Women's and Gender Studies with another arts discipline, Subsidiary, or Minor in Women's and Gender Studies. As outlined in chapter 4, Arts, Business, and Science students can complete a paired program in Women's and Gender Studies. Prospective students are encouraged to meet with the program Co-ordinator early in their academic planning.
