This program equips you with versatile skills in analytical reasoning, investigation, composition, debate, evaluation, and interpersonal communication.
As a unique offering among Canadian institutions, the GESJ curriculum challenges students to critically examine power dynamics globally, exploring both their origins and methods for transforming power structures to advance social equity. The interdisciplinary program maintains strong connections with Social Welfare and Social Development, Religions and Cultures, Political Science, and Philosophy, catering to individuals passionate about cultural critique; legal strategies against inequality; global human rights issues; conflict resolution and international law; transnational activism; colonial histories; feminist thought; postmodern theory; justice frameworks; and the interplay of race, class, ability, and gender identities.
Coursework in this specialization investigates how gender, race, economics, and geopolitics influence human rights abuses. The program also explores human rights activism across various settings: conflict zones, correctional facilities, educational institutions, cultural spaces, occupational environments, the sex industry, economic development initiatives, human trafficking, state violence, and systemic oppression.
