The Master of Arts (MA) is a graduate program combining coursework with thesis research. Enrolled students share core classes with MEd candidates before collaborating with faculty advisors to produce an original academic thesis.
Earning an MA demonstrates mastery of specialized knowledge and the ability to conduct meaningful, original educational research. This program adopts an academic perspective on learning technology design, implementation strategies, and assessing tech-driven educational innovations. Structured for both working professionals and full-time students, it serves diverse groups including K-12 educators, higher education faculty, instructional designers, and future scholars. The program welcomes applicants from various educational and technical fields. Participants will develop research-informed skills for creating educational technologies, implementing them effectively, and measuring learning outcomes. Alumni pursue careers in academic institutions, corporate training departments, research facilities, and alternative learning spaces. With scheduling flexibility in mind, most classes occur during late afternoon or evening hours, primarily at our Surrey location. The degree requires completion of coursework plus a thesis, totaling at least 34 credit units.
