The Department of Geography and Planning combines the study of locations, communities, ecosystems, and physical formations across our planet. This interdisciplinary department uniquely connects the humanities and social sciences (including human geography) with urban planning and physical geography. Our approach examines social and natural phenomena through the lens of specific locations and regions - acknowledging the vast diversity in cultural traditions, governance structures, economic systems, terrains, and ecosystems worldwide, along with their interconnections. Physical geography focuses on Earth's natural systems, their interactions, and environmental challenges from both natural and anthropogenic sources. Within social sciences, we analyze societal issues, particularly the unequal allocation of resources and services across various scales from neighborhood to worldwide. Humanities investigations examine how people have historically shaped and continue to transform their living spaces (physical, social, and conceptual). Queen's Geography and Planning boasts internationally recognized scholars committed to fostering cutting-edge research, innovative teaching methods, and a welcoming, supportive community for both students and faculty members.
