Geology is a contemporary, vibrant, and multifaceted scientific field focused on studying Earth's composition and the development of planetary bodies.
Earth scientists and geologists examine our planet's chemical, physical, and biological transformations. Our curriculum equips students with skills to evaluate Earth materials, explore its layers from crust to core, and simulate the forces that formed and molded its landmasses and oceans. The Ottawa area serves as an ideal outdoor classroom for researching resources (water, minerals, fossil fuels), natural threats (seismic activity, volcanic eruptions, slope failures), and diverse geological settings.
The Earth and Environmental Sciences Department provides geology programs and, in collaboration with Physics, a combined geology-physics track. These programs blend hands-on fieldwork with conceptual and technical studies addressing societal challenges. The culminating year features either an independent research initiative or equivalent advanced coursework credits.
The honors curriculum satisfies the professional certification standards set by Ontario's Association of Professional Geoscientists and Quebec's Ordre des géologues.
