Earth sciences explore our planet's history and life forms, particularly as preserved in rock formations. The Department of Earth Sciences equips students with both theoretical knowledge and technical skills to address challenges in resource extraction, mineral processing, and environmental conservation. Geology examines Earth's interconnected systems, focusing on:

the planet's evolutionary timeline and natural resource development
environmental threats including seismic activity, volcanic eruptions, and landslides
categorization of ancient life fossils, rock types, and mineral specimens
climate change projections derived from analyzing historical geological patterns
After completing their second year, geology majors and honors students participate in an intensive field mapping program. This is followed by an advanced course that enhances skills in regional geological mapping, aerial photo interpretation, data collection methods, and comprehensive report preparation.
