The Drawing & Painting program helps you develop into an innovative and thoughtful artist. Focus on honing your studio techniques while exploring art theory, history, and modern societal themes. You'll gain skills in articulating and documenting your creative process through multiple formats. Course offerings span diverse mediums like digital art, landscapes, figurative work, mixed media, and abstract painting.
Faculty members will inspire you to experiment with digital creations, installation art, and unconventional painting techniques. Our instructors—practicing artists themselves—offer personalized career guidance and detailed critiques of your work. You'll receive numerous chances to showcase your art in professional public exhibitions.
First-year students can enter the Drawing & Painting program directly. Applicants choosing this major undergo portfolio reviews by faculty for limited direct-entry spots. Those not accepted for direct entry may join the general first-year program to explore other disciplines while still accessing painting and drawing courses.
Through the Directed Studio option, students work on various projects while advancing their technical abilities and artistic concepts within structured and elective coursework, following program guidelines. This pathway provides increased flexibility for tailoring your final year of study. Drawing & Painting students are advised to complement their studies with Criticism & Curatorial Practice courses, Fabrication Studio classes, and electives across the Faculty of Art's disciplines.
Student must have a Secondary School Graduation equivalent to Grade 12 in Ontario with an overall average of B or 70% numeric equivalent in the final year.
