The sculpture program offers training in diverse traditional and modern techniques, employing both specialized tools and manual methods. Learners master various approaches including stone carving, metal welding, fabric arts, woodworking, mold creation, casting, and clay modeling.
The six-week intermediate program introduces fundamental sculptural principles through independent research, technical workshops, reading discussions, practical exercises, and project creation in a cooperative studio setting. Participants also cultivate analytical evaluation skills, efficient work habits, professional artistic presentation standards, and innovative solution-finding methods. First and second-year instruction occurs in a spacious shared studio with communal work areas and storage.
During the twelve-week third-year curriculum, students concentrate on personal artistic exploration, deepening both conceptual development and technical proficiency. They produce three-dimensional works engaging with modern art practices, incorporating advanced sculptural methods with temporal media like video and audio for standalone pieces or installations. Specialized workshops cover sophisticated techniques and equipment operation. Each project includes investigation of relevant social, cultural, historical, or theoretical contexts. This upper-level course features private studio spaces and a dedicated workshop area.
