The Bachelor of Arts with a Major in Art History focuses on North American and European art, craft, design, film, and architectural history from the 19th to 21st centuries. An Indigenous Studies minor and other core courses offer opportunities to explore earlier artistic periods and global cultural expressions. Students engage deeply with art, craft, and design histories while developing analytical skills through art theory and social studies courses. The program includes critical studies options covering material culture, environmental themes, gender theory, and community-based art. Students may also participate in studio courses within a vibrant creative environment.
NSCAD University's art history graduates frequently pursue advanced degrees in art history or related fields. Career paths include teaching art at K-12 or university levels, as well as roles as curators, critics, editors, appraisers, archivists, art therapists, conservators, and community arts professionals.
Applicants currently completing high school must submit a record of all studies from at least grade 10 onward. These transcripts should include at least mid-term or first semester grades for the graduating year.
All high school applicants must have completed grade 12 (or the highest grade level required for secondary graduation) with an average of 70% or higher, including a minimum grade of 70% in grade 12 English for university preparation. Advanced Placement (AP) courses with a grade of 4 or higher are eligible for transfer credit.
