Northern's Veterinary Technician program offers an accredited two-year diploma that prepares you for frontline roles in zoos, animal shelters, research facilities, and beyond.
You'll master veterinary practice management and gain skills to advise clients on proper pet nutrition. Develop proficiency in taking vital signs, conducting basic examinations, and dispensing medications under veterinary supervision.
The curriculum also covers interpreting small animal behavior, along with training in triage, laboratory procedures, anesthesia administration, surgical support, and preventive dental care.
Upon completion, you'll possess the practical abilities and knowledge to excel as a competent professional in any animal healthcare setting.
Our OAVT accreditation enables graduates to qualify for the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE).
The program teaches essential clinical skills including patient assessments, vital sign monitoring, medication administration, and pharmaceutical preparation under veterinary direction. Students will study anesthesia techniques, animal nursing, surgical assistance, dental prophylaxis, and diagnostic procedures like blood tests, cultures, and ECG interpretation. Additional training includes veterinary office operations, small animal behavior analysis, and client education regarding pet dietary needs.
