NAIT's Geoscience Technology program offers students comprehensive training and practical experience in earth sciences. Covering areas from resource exploration to environmental cleanup, graduates apply their expertise in geology, hydrogeology, geophysics, geochemistry, and related disciplines to guide critical decisions across various industries.
Upon completing the Geoscience Technology program, you'll be equipped to contribute professionally to environmental, energy, and mining sectors. Beyond classroom instruction and laboratory work, the program includes two intensive one-week Field Schools. The first takes place in the Canadian Rockies foothills for geological mapping, while the second utilizes on-campus groundwater monitoring wells to teach water sampling and monitoring techniques. These experiences help bridge classroom concepts with real-world applications while gathering data for academic analysis.
Eligible students can pursue 4, 8, or 12-month co-op placements after completing specific courses (ENGL1335, GEOL1110, GEOL1120, GEOL1245, and GEOL1270), earning 24 credits, and before finishing remaining level 1 and 2 coursework. Co-op participants gain valuable industry experience while developing professional skills. Admission to the co-op program requires completing prerequisite courses with a minimum 2.7 GPA.
