Alberta's woodlands serve as a renewable public asset, governed by the province's Forests Act. NAIT's Forest Technology diploma equips students with responsible and sustainable forest management skills through hands-on fieldwork, classroom instruction, and data interpretation.
This program suits individuals who are environmentally conscious, prefer outdoor settings, demonstrate strong dedication, maintain good physical condition, and are adept with technology.
Spanning two years across four semesters, the program features 17-week Fall terms starting in August and 15-week Winter terms beginning in January. Contemporary forestry combines technology with fieldwork, emphasizing areas like land restoration, fire science, pest control, water systems, ecology, tree planting, forest engineering, wildlife conservation, environmental laws, outdoor recreation, soil science, timber operations, and geospatial technologies (GIS/GPS). The curriculum prepares students for practical conservation work by teaching modern forestry methods, wildfire response protocols, plant surveys, and regulatory compliance.
