The Master of Arts in History program includes coursework, a Major Research Paper, and participation in the yearly Graduate Student Conference to present findings. Students can choose between a one-year intensive track (Fall, Winter, and Spring/Summer terms) or a flexible three-year option (nine consecutive terms). The program focuses on key historical disciplines: International, Gender, Canadian, European, and Environmental studies. Our distinguished faculty specialize in diverse areas including environmental history, genocide studies, indigenous research, political and diplomatic history, as well as military and intelligence history.‚Äã The curriculum combines academic coursework with a Major Research Paper (MRP), typically finished within twelve months. The MRP allows students to conduct original research while engaging with significant scholarly works in their field. This MA program prepares graduates for doctoral studies while honing research and writing skills applicable to various professional paths. A unique highlight is the spring Graduate Student Conference, where participants showcase their MRP proposals to peers and scholars.
The European history specialization explores the continent's evolution from medieval times to modernity. Faculty members bring expertise in British, German, and Russian national histories, alongside thematic strengths in warfare studies, Holocaust and genocide research, military history, and medieval European developments.
