This program equips you with versatile skills in analytical reasoning, investigation, composition, debate, interpretation, and effective communication.
As a unique offering among Canadian institutions, the GESJ program trains you to critically examine power dynamics globally—exploring who holds influence, why, and methods for challenging and transforming power structures to advance social equity. The curriculum spans multiple disciplines, maintaining strong connections to Social Welfare and Social Development, Religions and Cultures, Political Science, and Philosophy. It's ideal for students passionate about analyzing popular culture critically; legal strategies against inequality; global human rights issues; conflict resolution and international justice; transnational activism; colonial histories; feminist thought; postmodern theories; justice frameworks; and intersections of identity markers like race, class, ability, and gender.
GESJ students gain comprehensive humanities and social sciences training. Using interdisciplinary approaches, you'll explore how society shapes concepts of gender, sexuality, race, and class—and how these categories influence knowledge systems, personal experiences, relationships, and life quality.
