Memorial University's Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science provides graduate programs with thesis requirements for both Master of Engineering (MEng) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in Mechanical Engineering.
The department's research infrastructure encompasses specialized labs for automation, control systems, computing, fluid dynamics, thermal transfer, and structural analysis. Unique equipment includes a low-speed wind tunnel, SEM/XRD material analyzers, multiphase flow systems, climate-controlled chambers, wave simulation tanks, advanced imaging technologies, and mechatronics workspaces. Additionally, the campus houses a manufacturing innovation hub with rapid prototyping capabilities, supported by comprehensive technical services featuring conventional and CNC machining.
Typically requiring three to four years, the PhD curriculum involves two advanced courses post-master's level, rigorous qualifying exams, and an original research dissertation.
