Previously known as Conservation and Restoration Ecology (CARE), this program prepares you to positively impact plants, soils, water, and wildlife for coming generations. You'll gain expertise in revitalizing, rehabilitating, and protecting diverse ecosystems ranging from prairies to woodlands, and from insects to large mammals.
The curriculum combines scientific knowledge with hands-on fieldwork experience.
Field training begins immediately in your first year, where you'll explore various aspects of environmental science.
Second year concentrates on: optimal management approaches and conservation methods
Your education extends beyond traditional classrooms to outdoor field laboratories where you'll develop practical skills and collect ecological data for analysis. Key learning outcomes include: determining essential habitat needs for flora and fauna, applying environmental criteria to categorize wetlands, water systems, forests and plains, evaluating and documenting both impacted and natural ecosystems
implementing restoration methods in actual rural and urban settings, recording field observations according to professional standards
Graduates in land stewardship and conservation can pursue numerous growing career opportunities.
Increasing public expectations for environmental accountability and advocacy group pressures have created more positions in governmental agencies, private sectors, and regulatory organizations.
