The Master of Nursing (MN) program is a graduate-level coursework degree that incorporates clinical training. The MN Nurse Practitioner Specialization specifically aims to equip students for the MN Nurse Practitioner curriculum, qualifying them for licensure as a Registered Nurse (Extended Class) Nurse Practitioner. Lakehead University's Nurse Practitioner Primary Health Care Program holds accreditation from the College of Nurses of Ontario. Graduates of this program meet the requirements to pursue Extended Class registration as Nurse Practitioners in Ontario.
The Nurse Practitioner Specialization is conducted through live, web-based video and teleconferencing, with occasional mandatory in-person lab sessions in Thunder Bay. Students will undertake clinical practicums (spanning 3 courses) involving collaboration between the student, instructor, and clinical preceptor, alongside seminar requirements. Practicum locations will be arranged according to students' professional interests and geographic regions. Students are advised against seeking their own placement opportunities.

Applicants for admission must be graduates of a recognized university, college, or institute as well as show evidence of scholarly achievement. Except where otherwise stated in the Admission Requirements of a particular program, degree students must have a four year bachelor's degree or its equivalent with at least second class standing (B, 70% average) based on their last 20 half courses or equivalent.
