Our interdisciplinary programs merge various approaches within a studio environment focused on practice and research. ECU's MFA delivers an adaptable, cross-disciplinary experience that intensifies your artistic development while promoting meaningful critical analysis. This two-year program combines coursework, creative investigation, and hands-on material work through on-campus instruction. Students engage in dynamic coursework during Fall and Spring semesters, followed by independent thesis development in Summer.
The full-residency MFA suits artists desiring an immersive campus experience with continuous access to our comprehensive labs, studios, facilities, and research centers. Fall and Spring semesters offer focused periods for studio practice advancement, enabling deep material experimentation and theoretical engagement. Within this critique-driven setting, you'll be motivated to push boundaries, test your limits, and refine both your technical skills and critical viewpoints.
During the program, you'll craft your thesis project under faculty mentorship—a significant creative undertaking combining practical work and written analysis.
