NSCAD University's Visual Arts Certificate for Teachers is tailored for educators seeking to deepen their understanding of visual art history and theory while refining their studio techniques and instructional approaches. Endorsed by the Nova Scotia Department of Education, Maritime Provinces Higher Education Commission, and NSCAD University's Academic Council, this program fulfills Nova Scotia's criteria for Advanced Teacher Certification at one level. The certificate is available to both specialized art instructors and general classroom teachers.
ART SPECIALISTS:
An art specialist teacher is defined as a graduate of both a recognized Bachelor of Fine Arts degree program or equivalent and of a recognized Bachelor of Education program with a first teachable in the visual arts. Applicants must have at least one full year of visual arts teaching experience within a public or approved private school setting.
NON-SPECIALISTS:
A non-specialist teacher is defined as a graduate of both a recognized bachelor degree program (or equivalent) and of a recognized bachelor of education program. Applicants must have at least one full year of teaching experience within a public or approved private setting at the elementary or secondary level.
English Language proficiency:
TOEFL: At least 94 with no test less than 22
IELTS: At least 7.0 with no test less than 6.0
CAEL: At least 69 with no test less than 60
CANTEST: At least 4.5 with no test less than 4.0
CAE: At least B
MELAB: At least 82 with no test less than 80
