The Master of Fine Arts in Craft Media positions craft as a vehicle for conceptual discovery and meaningful discourse through hands-on material engagement. This program pushes you to examine form, functionality, craftsmanship, production methods, material properties, communication channels, and other critical inquiries within an interdisciplinary, cooperative studio environment that reimagines the frontiers of modern craft practice. AUArts' MFA CRAFT MEDIA stands as a distinctive graduate offering, prioritizing studio work rooted in practice-driven research while building upon comprehensive studies of historical context and critical theory. Tailored for practitioners at all career stages - from emerging to established artists - it provides space to develop, contextualize, and refine your personal craft philosophy within practical making frameworks. Throughout the 20-month curriculum, you'll investigate questions of design, utility, material essence, and process, revealing where heritage meets innovation, and how cultural migrations intertwine with the transmission of symbols, narratives, and technical knowledge.
