Our intensive Master of Design program is tailored for designers aiming to craft experiences and products that reshape both local and global communities. Rooted in critical theory and hands-on material exploration, our curriculum pathways delve into the ecological, ethical, and political dimensions of design. These pathways emphasize critical, practice-driven creative inquiry. During your studies at Emily Carr, faculty, staff, and fellow students will enhance your professional growth through mentorship, constructive critique, and encouragement.
Your thesis—a creative endeavor blending innovative media with scholarly writing—will be nurtured in studio courses and research seminars under the guidance of dedicated faculty advisors. The MDes Interaction track is a two-year, on-campus program combining coursework, creative investigation, and material experimentation. While focusing on UX/UI, this program extends into broader territories, examining design methodologies concerning nature, service systems, human-tech relationships, data ethics, and other pressing themes.
As an MDes Interaction candidate, you'll engage in cutting-edge coursework and self-directed thesis work. You'll select a specialized research area within interaction design, potentially exploring human psychology, digital-physical intersections, transient materials, or other relevant subjects.
Within our studio-based research environment, you'll be empowered to question conventional perspectives on human and environmental interactions. With resources like our VR lab and collaborative research support, you'll pioneer speculative writing, futuring exercises, and experimental co-design projects.
