The Master of Fine Arts in Studio Arts signifies the highest level of academic achievement in visual arts education. Located within the Faculty of Fine Arts - one of North America's premier institutions for advanced fine arts education - this MFA program attracts working artists seeking to enhance their personal artistic vision through rigorous critical examination. Push your boundaries in our three-year, studio-focused curriculum, offering seven specialized areas: Fibres and Materials Practices, Intermedia, Painting and Drawing, Photography, Print Media, and Sculpture and Ceramics. You'll have opportunities to engage with artistic heritage, innovate with novel materials and digital tools, foster cross-disciplinary partnerships, and investigate evolving forms of artistic presentation and public engagement. This self-guided journey will solidify your professional artistic identity while equipping you for diverse contemporary art careers, including education, curation, art criticism, publishing, and scholarly research.
A Bachelor of Fine Arts or a Bachelor of Arts with Fine Arts or Fine Arts and Art History major, or an approved equivalent, from a recognized institution and with at least a B average in the major area is required. Applicants to the Film Production concentration are expected to have a Bachelor of Fine Arts or Bachelor of Arts degree in cinema or an approved equivalent with at least a B average in the major area. In all cases the students’ undergraduate experience and proficiency must be relevant to the area in which they plan to specialize at the graduate level.
Note: Students with a BFA from Concordia University must wait two (2) years before being considered for admission into the MFA program.
