Shape tomorrow's leaders. Empower individuals to reach their full potential. Studying human relations transforms your passion for people into a catalyst for societal transformation. Mastering interpersonal dynamics in both community and professional settings prepares you for careers focused on helping others. Whether your goal is to strengthen corporate teams or mobilize local initiatives, our Human Relations program equips you with the skills to emerge as a forward-thinking leader.
Newly enrolled students begin in either the Human Relations Major or Specialization track. Concentration selection occurs after successfully completing AHSC 270 (Introduction to Human Relations Theory and Research) during the first semester. This foundational course provides comprehensive insight into the various systems underlying the program's concentrations. Students can later transfer between concentrations through our department's internal process.
We offer four specialized focus areas: Individual & Small Group Processes (available as major or specialization), Community Development (major or specialization), Organization Development and Change (major or specialization), and Family Science (specialization only)
Community Development
This discipline focuses on recognizing and enhancing community assets while addressing challenges. Students gain practical and analytical abilities to collaborate with communities, facilitating positive transformation through capacity building. The curriculum teaches methods to promote collective action that advances social equity and inclusion. Graduates will be prepared to work with diverse populations (including youth, immigrants, or marginalized groups) across urban, suburban, or rural settings.
