Global Development Studies is an internationally focused, multidisciplinary program offering students a holistic understanding of the key factors behind social, economic, and environmental transformations worldwide. Our undergraduate curriculum prepares students for diverse career paths and advanced studies by linking broad global trends with practical solutions. This distinctive program equips students with professional competencies to effectively pursue their passion for positive global impact. Global Development Studies (DEVS) is a dynamic discipline exploring political, economic, and cultural shifts at all levels, from local communities to international systems. Queen's DEVS program stands out through its cross-disciplinary methodology, collaborating with departments like Geography, Economics, Environmental Studies, History, Political Science, Sociology, and Gender Studies, along with the Queen's Aboriginal Council, to analyze interactions between and within Global North and South nations. The curriculum addresses critical topics including poverty, cultural dominance, human rights, social welfare policies, and international trade. Specialized courses on Indigenous communities in Canada enable students to perceive 'development' as an interactive process rather than a fixed attribute of specific regions or populations. DEVS additionally provides exceptional international learning experiences, such as a month-long course at Cuba's University of Havana.
