The PhD program provides two specialized tracks:

social transformation geography, focusing on worldwide economic systems; structural shifts and ecological concerns; cultural evolution patterns; gender-focused geographical studies
environmental transformation geography, concentrating on ecological systems and human influences; assessment and community stewardship of natural resources.
Students may additionally pursue an interdisciplinary concentration in Political Economy.

Qualification Requirements

The normal requirement for admission to the Ph.D. program is a master's degree (or the equivalent) in geography, with at least an A- average.

A student already registered in the M.A. or M.Sc. program who shows outstanding academic performance and research promise may be permitted to transfer to the Ph.D. program with a recommendation by the Departmental graduate committee.

Applicants whose academic preparation has deficiencies in certain areas may be admitted to the Ph.D. program with the requirement that they complete additional course work.

IELTS - Overall 6.5 (minimum 6.0 in each band).
TOEFL iBT - 86 (20 in reading and listening, 22 in speaking and writing)
TOEFL PBT - overall score of 580.
