In Ceramics, you'll experience a deep dive into the field – covering both theory and practice – while cultivating a versatile approach to creating functional, sculptural, and avant-garde ceramic works. Examine the significance of utility, artistic expression, innovative technologies, historical influences, and modern applications within an immersive studio curriculum. You'll gain material expertise through specialized courses that emphasize different fabrication techniques, such as wheel-throwing, hand-building methods, mold creation, and casting processes. The Ceramics program enables students to specialize in their preferred techniques while offering a broad disciplinary perspective, enhanced by an intensive, self-directed studio course (CRMC 320 or CRMC 323). Through hands-on experimentation and practical learning, students will build a robust theoretical foundation in ceramic arts.
