This program immerses you in modern planning theories and current discussions while building specialized skills in practical planning applications. You'll gain comprehensive understanding of urban development alongside focused expertise in planning, preparing you to contribute across the built environment industry.
Designed for diverse applicants, the program fosters interdisciplinary urban studies with professional planning competencies applicable to development, policy creation, and built environment design roles.
Through interconnected core courses, you'll explore fundamental ideas spanning the multiple dimensions that influence how we plan, shape policies, and urbanize tomorrow's cities.
Your learning journey concludes with a capstone Integrated Studio experience, where you'll tackle authentic complex projects. This Studio mirrors professional workflows by collaborating with community organizations, developers, and/or government officials to understand the interconnected strategic, economic, social, and environmental factors shaping urban design decisions.
Admission to the Master of Urbanism requires:
a bachelor's degree in design, human geography or related field from the University of Sydney, or an equivalent qualification.
IELTS score: A minimum result of 6.5 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band
TOEFL - IBT score: A minimum result of 85 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing
Pearsons Test of English: A minimum result of 61 overall and a minimum result of 54 in each band
