Urban Design plays a vital role in addressing pressing urban challenges, including climate change effects, demographic shifts, evolving work environments, and technological advancements. RMIT's master's program offers a collaborative, studio-focused setting where students tackle these concerns through practical projects. Participants will master the art of synthesizing knowledge from various urban fields into visionary design concepts, proposing fresh paradigms for city development. Tailored for professionals seeking career growth, this program fosters inventive methodologies in urban design practice.
The curriculum emphasizes hands-on design work, cultivating sophisticated skills for imaginative and cooperative projects. Students explore significant urban transformation sites worldwide, interacting with professional networks and local communities invested in these areas' futures. Through this process, they learn to weave interdisciplinary urban knowledge into comprehensive proposals that reimagine city development. The program specifically supports designers aiming to enhance their professional trajectory and pioneer novel practice techniques.
Rooted in RMIT's longstanding tradition of urban design scholarship and application, this program maintains strong ties with the university's acclaimed Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Interior, and Industrial Design departments. It also collaborates with postgraduate studies in Property, Construction, Project Management, and Urban Planning, creating a diverse research environment for urban design exploration.
While primarily focused on the Australasian context from its Melbourne base, the program includes international workshops at RMIT's Vietnam and Barcelona campuses, providing global insights. These are supplemented by digital lectures covering urban history, form studies, and professional practice.
