UNSW's Master of City Planning is a two-year, professionally recognized graduate program designed to help you transition into urban and regional planning by building on your prior academic background. Urban planning offers a dynamic, diverse, and forward-thinking career path that critically influences how cities and regions develop. As a planner, you'll enhance quality of life by creating sustainable, fair, health-conscious, and inspiring urban environments. Within the Faculty of Arts, Design & Architecture, you'll become part of an exceptionally collaborative and multidisciplinary academic environment. You'll collaborate with peers and experts from various built environment disciplines, mirroring real-world professional settings. The program leverages UNSW's robust industry connections and cutting-edge research in urban planning, covering topics like urban regeneration, city data analysis, housing strategies, and eco-friendly community development. During your final year, you'll complete a significant capstone project to refine your specialized knowledge and build a professional portfolio to launch your career.
A Bachelor degree with a credit average or above (WAM 65+). Students with an undergraduate degree in a cognate discipline are able to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Advanced standing may also be granted for completed or partially completed postgraduate awards from UNSW or from another institution. Applicants who do not meet these standard admission requirements may be able to enter the Grad Cert City Planning in the first instance. This will be at the discretion of the Program Director or Academic Coordinator who will assess applications on a case-by-case basis.
English Language Requirements:
IELTS: 7.0 overall (min. 6.0 in each subtest); TOEFL IBT (Internet Based): 94 overall (min. 25 in writing, 23 in reading, listening and speaking); Pearson (PTE - Academic): 65 overall (min. 54 in each subtest); C1 Advanced Cambridge: 185 overall (min. 169 in each subtest); C2 Proficiency Cambridge: 185 overall (min. 180 in each subtest); UNSW Global University English Entry Course (UEEC): Successful completion with a minimum overall grade of B and a minimum grade of C in the writing component.
