The Honours program following the Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Science is a prestigious additional year of study available after completing your undergraduate degree. This specialized year allows you to delve deeper into research while applying the theoretical knowledge gained during your bachelor's studies. An Honours qualification in either science or arts holds significant value not just in academic circles but also in professional sectors that prize laboratory expertise and advanced analytical skills. You can pursue Honours in any science or arts discipline, typically aligning with your undergraduate focus. The program involves developing a research project in your chosen field under academic supervision. Your research may span multiple disciplines (such as combining physiology and biology) and could require specialized coursework or technical training depending on your project requirements.
The Asian Studies Honours program comprises two seminar courses and an 18,000-20,000 word thesis on a topic of your choice. While all coursework and the thesis are conducted in English (mirroring the undergraduate Asian Studies major), students with Asian language skills are encouraged to incorporate primary sources in those languages. Admission requires an Asian Studies major with a minimum 70% average, including completion of ASNS3690 Approaches to Research in Asian Studies (or equivalent for transfer students).
