The Honours year following the Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Science is a prestigious additional year of undergraduate study, offering you the chance to deepen your academic journey after completing your degree. This program allows you to develop your research skills while applying the theoretical knowledge gained during your undergraduate studies. An Honours qualification in science or arts is valued both in academic circles and professional sectors, where research experience and advanced analytical abilities are in high demand. You can pursue Honours in any science or arts discipline, typically within your primary field of study. The program involves creating a research project in your chosen area, guided by academic supervisors. Your research may span multiple disciplines (such as combining physiology and biology) and could require specialized coursework or technical training for specific equipment.
Students starting this program in 2021 or 2022 must begin their studies on campus, as remote learning is not an option. Admission requires proof of physical presence in Australia by the university's specified date. For Theatre and Performance Studies Honours, applicants need a major in the field with a minimum 70% average and completion of PRFM3961 Rehearsal Studies. The Honours year integrates theory and practice through specialized seminars, an independent research thesis, and an in-depth case study involving fieldwork. Honours students actively contribute to the department's research community. Past projects have explored diverse performance contexts, including experimental dance in Central Australia, Indigenous theatre in Melbourne, Opera Australia productions, Indonesian wayang topeng, Sydney radio comedy, NIDA productions, mountain bike racing, and women's AFL teams.
