Today's standard Hebrew, known as Modern Hebrew, is spoken by around nine million people worldwide. The Modern Hebrew degree program provides comprehensive language training focusing on five essential competencies: listening comprehension, verbal communication, reading comprehension, written expression, and cultural understanding. As you progress through the program, you'll enhance your abilities in these linguistic and cultural areas.

While focusing primarily on everyday conversational Hebrew, the curriculum also exposes students to diverse spoken and written forms, from news media to literary works including poetry. Graduates will achieve fluency in Modern Hebrew across multiple contexts while developing analytical skills to examine the language's structure, as well as its associated literature and cultural traditions.

The program accommodates students at different proficiency levels through placement testing, ensuring each learner begins at the appropriate coursework level. This structured approach guarantees steady academic advancement throughout your studies.

Thanks to the strong alignment between our local program and the offerings at Hebrew University's Rothberg International School in Jerusalem, students may elect to complete portions of their studies at this prestigious Israeli institution.
