The Master of Counselling offers advanced education in counselling and serves as a pathway to accreditation with the Australian Counselling Association, the country's leading professional body for counsellors and psychotherapists. This program focuses on skill enhancement, interactive instruction, hands-on learning, and personal growth, helping students to:
Cultivate expertise in analytical reasoning, effective communication, solution-focused strategies, and innovative client intervention techniques.
Engage in immersive, cooperative, and comprehensive learning methods that foster deep practical understanding, self-reflection, and personal awareness.
Support clients from varied backgrounds while recognizing the significance of social and cultural influences.
Utilize current academic resources and methodologies to conduct meaningful research projects.
Participants will complete supervised counselling practicums at approved agencies while receiving guidance from experienced professionals and collaborating with fellow students.
The program mandates a 200-hour placement requirement. Students should be prepared to commute up to 90 minutes for placements, with regional and remote students potentially needing to travel greater distances or temporarily relocate if local options are unavailable. Alongside placement obligations, students must attend an intensive 5-day in-person workshop at a location to be confirmed, though an on-campus venue is guaranteed.
