Whether your background is in counseling or adjacent fields such as education, healthcare, or social services, the Master of Counselling program will provide you with the tools to engage meaningfully with clients while offering empathetic guidance. Upon completion, you'll have accumulated 200 hours of hands-on experience, ready to deliver customized assistance based on each client's specific needs. Through experiential learning, you'll master applying advanced counseling theories to recognize and manage emotional challenges, utilizing approaches like cognitive behavioral therapy, emotion-focused therapy, and other conversational treatment methods.
Your education will be informed by our School of Psychology's pioneering research, recognized as exceeding global standards. You'll examine current studies in the discipline while exploring various specialized counseling areas such as trauma, loss, sexual health, couples therapy, and group interventions. Beyond traditional in-person sessions, you'll gain expertise in delivering support through digital platforms like video calls and phone consultations—modalities growing increasingly vital in today's counseling landscape.
Enrich your academic knowledge with 200 hours of practical placement experience, working with clients from varied backgrounds and age demographics. This opportunity allows you to refine your ability to establish client connections and deliver tailored support using assessment and intervention techniques. Your placement will involve independent client sessions, administrative tasks, supervised training, and teamwork with mental health practitioners, equipping you for supervisory, leadership, and management positions in the field.
To be considered for admission to this degree you will need to meet at least one of the following criteria:
completion of a bachelor degree or higher in any discipline
evidence of academic capability judged to be equivalent and a recorded person statement (video)

C1 ADVANCED and C2 PROFICIENCY: 185 No band less than 176
PTE: 65 No less than 58 in each skill
