The University of Notre Dame Australia's Master of Counselling program holds accreditation from both the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia and the Australian Counselling Association. This professional training program blends academic coursework with hands-on counselling practice. Students holding a Bachelor of Counselling or equivalent qualification may qualify for course duration reduction. This postgraduate degree caters to professionals from diverse fields such as social work, human resources, nursing, psychology, and education, equipping graduates with both theoretical understanding and practical counselling competencies.
The program adopts a comprehensive approach to counselling, emphasizing modern, evidence-based methods, group dynamics, mental health studies, research methodologies, and lifespan counselling techniques. Students cultivate self-reflection abilities, explore connections between theoretical concepts and real-world applications, and demonstrate proficiency in evaluating and addressing diverse client concerns. The curriculum also develops essential research capabilities for the counselling profession. During the second year, students complete a 200-hour industry placement, which includes minimum requirements of 40 client-facing hours and 10 hours of individual clinical supervision.
