Deakin's Gender and Sexuality Studies program offers a comprehensive exploration of how gender and sexuality are understood and experienced, blending local perspectives with global knowledge exchanges. The curriculum examines these concepts as both cultural constructs and personal realities, with special attention to how they intersect with factors like social class, nationality, ethnic background, race, faith, physical ability, and geographic context. As students progress through the program, they gain critical thinking tools to engage with contemporary discussions about identity formation and societal responses to diversity, particularly regarding how biological sex, gender identity, and sexual orientation shape self-perception and interpersonal relations.
