The Master of Contemporary Practices in Art (Advanced) is designed for artists seeking to elevate their independent contemporary art practice to new heights. This program enhances students' practical, theoretical, and conceptual skills, fostering a richer comprehension of contemporary art within the broader context of multidisciplinary artistic work. Today's artists engage with the complex challenges and inquiries emerging in our rapidly evolving global and technological landscape. Their methods are varied, incorporating diverse materials, techniques, and themes to expand their creative boundaries. Modern artists frequently tackle problems through collaboration, innovative thinking, and practices that transcend conventional artistic limits. What makes this graduate program distinctive is its emphasis on hands-on learning across workshops, studios, and digital platforms, guiding students through courses that foster individual research-driven exploration. Participants are inspired to explore multiple approaches to contemporary art, from mastering specialized materials and techniques to experimenting with new conceptual frameworks or addressing challenges through interdisciplinary or hybrid solutions. Students both benefit from and contribute to the vibrant research culture within the School of Art and Design.
Learning Outcomes
Develop and articulate a sophisticated understanding of contemporary art practices, including relevant knowledge, concepts, techniques, and contexts for their personal artistic work;
Design and implement independent, research-driven projects using methodologies that explore and challenge advanced artistic concepts;
Analyze, assess, and integrate theoretical, conceptual, and aesthetic principles into the creation of artistic works or professionally significant projects;
Applicants must present one of the following:
The GPA for a Bachelor program will be calculated from (i) a completed Bachelor degree using all grades and/or (ii) a completed Bachelor degree using all grades other than those from the last semester (or equivalent study period) of the Bachelor degree. The higher of the two calculations will be used as the basis for admission.
English Language Requirements
IELTS Academic and IELTS UKVI Academic [excluding One Skill Retake and IELTS Online] - Overall score of 6.5 overall with minimum 6.0 in each band.
TOEFL iBT Paper Edition and TOEFL iBT [excluding Paper Edition and Home Edition] - Overall score of 80 (Reading - 20; Writing - 20; Listening - 18; Speaking - 18).
Cambridge C1 Advanced - Overall score of 176 minimum 169 in each band.
PTE Academic and PTE Academic UKVI [excluding PTE Academic Online] - Overall score of 64 minimum 55 in each band.
