The Master of Arts (Research Training) is a postgraduate research program designed for students who have completed a standard three-year bachelor's degree. This program also serves as an ideal pathway into advanced research for professionals with significant industry background or alternative research credentials who might not qualify for direct PhD entry. Students will gain focused, advanced research skills within a specific field or across disciplines, along with chances to apply their findings in practical professional settings.
The curriculum blends structured coursework with independent investigation in humanities or social sciences. You'll conduct extensive self-directed research under the guidance of at least two specialist supervisors. Our faculty comprises more than 500 scholars dedicated to nurturing globally competitive researchers who are driven to produce innovative work and make meaningful societal contributions. A distinguishing feature of our research initiatives is their variety and the caliber of our academic staff, who include some of the world's most respected and motivational research leaders.
To meet the admissions requirements for the Master of Arts Research Training, applicants must provide evidence of the following:
3-year Bachelor's degree completed in the Faculty of Arts, Monash University, in a relevant discipline, including a 6 point research literacy unit ATS3222 Developing Research Literacy and a 6 point research capstone unit in the final year. Note: in order to undertake this 6 point Developing Research Literacy unit, students must do a pre- or co-requisite with a research capstone unit. Students must achieve a minimum 75% average in their majors, and 75% for the two research and discipline capstone units, or
A Bachelor's degree with at least Second Class Honours - Upper or its international equivalent, or
A combination of qualifications, research publications and/or at least two years of documented professional experience related to the field of study that may be assessed as equivalent to paragraph (2), or
Another degree with a significant research/thesis component that may be assessed as equivalent to paragraph (2)
IELTS 7.0 overall (no band less than 6.5)
TOEFL (paper-based) : 587+ TWE 4.5
TOEFL 94 + Reading 19, Listening 20, Speaking 20 & Writing 24
Pearson Test of English (Academic): 65 + communicative score 58
Cambridge English: 185 + Writing 185 and no skill below 169
