The Master of Arts (Research) program enables you to undertake a significant independent research endeavor under personalized guidance from distinguished scholars in your discipline. Explore your research interests across diverse subject areas within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences—ranked among the global top 20 for arts and humanities research. Cultivate sophisticated abilities such as analytical reasoning, data evaluation, project coordination, alongside communication and problem-solving expertise. This research degree combines thesis work with structured coursework, requiring: A 20,000 to 40,000-word thesis; and Completion of at least one postgraduate unit (six credit points). For those pursuing advanced research, the MA (Research) serves as a globally recognized stepping stone to a PhD. Alternatively, the research experience gained provides a significant career advantage and improved employment prospects both domestically and internationally.
To be eligible for admission to the MA (Research) you must have completed the equivalent of one of the following in a subject area related to your proposed research area:
bachelor’s degree or equivalent; or
master’s degree by coursework
IELTS score: A minimum result of 6.5 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band
TOEFL - IBT score: A minimum result of 85 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing
Pearsons Test of English: A minimum result of 61 overall and a minimum result of 54 in each band
