Highlighting the connection between nursing and public health, Yale School of Nursing (YSN) and Yale School of Public Health (YSPH) provide a combined degree program in these fields. This pathway is particularly designed for those aiming to merge careers in advanced nursing practice with public health, potentially encompassing direct care, strategic planning, and policy development across various healthcare systems within the public health domain. The joint degree takes three years to complete (four years for Graduate Entry Pre-Specialty in Nursing (GEPN) students) and grants both a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and a Master of Public Health (MPH). Rather than just combining courses from both schools, this program creates a cohesive curriculum that blends both disciplines while maintaining each program's distinct identity. YSN students from all clinical specialties—except Nurse Midwifery/WHNP (due to scheduling conflicts)—can apply. The most suitable YSPH departments for this joint MSN/MPH degree are Chronic Disease Epidemiology (CDE), Health Policy (HP), or Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS). Note that YSPH students enrolled in the Health Care Management program cannot pursue the joint MSN/MPH option.
