The Master of Environmental Science (MESc) and Master of Forest Science (MFS) programs cater to students aiming to pursue scientific research that advances both fundamental and practical understanding. The MFS degree focuses on forestry subjects, while the MESc degree is tailored for environmental studies outside forestry. These science-oriented programs offer a more specialized academic concentration compared to the School's management degrees, while maintaining the foundational principle of allowing students curricular flexibility to achieve their educational objectives. The curriculum incorporates structured instruction in scientific philosophy and methodology, delivered through core courses paired with extensive research. Students will undertake their required scientific research in close partnership with a faculty advisor from F&ES. Advisor selection occurs during the application phase, where candidates specify three preferred advisors. While pre-application contact with potential advisors is encouraged, it's not mandatory, and advisor assignments aren't finalized prior to admission.
