The Black Religion in the African Diaspora concentration is an interdisciplinary program rooted in the YDS curriculum, offering diverse courses that explore the theology, history, philosophy, aesthetics, and practices of Black religious traditions. Students have the opportunity to enroll in relevant African American religious studies courses across various University departments, such as Anthropology, Religious Studies, History, African Studies, African American Studies, Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, Music, and Art History. By examining manuscript, printed, visual, and oral/aural sources, students develop multiple methodological approaches to creatively engage with Black religion and investigate contemporary discussions on race, gender, sexuality, popular culture, politics, and media.
